Memorable People - Friends and Acquaintances of Charles B. Moore

There are people who in your first meeting become very close and lasting friends. John is one of those special people.

I first met John Whitehead in Washington in 1977. He was one of a group of men I trained to lobby members of Congress on the Tuition Tax Credit Bill. After several days of lobbying on "the hill" this group of men had a farewell dinner together at "Blackies House of Beef", a very old and famous steak house.

I took John on his first visit to the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials. At the Lincoln Memorial, John and I stood side by side and each read one of Lincolns addresses. Reading the Gettysburg Address and the Second Inaugural Address brought tears to our eyes.

Arriving at the Jefferson Memorial (around midnight), we found it impossible to catch a cab back in to town, so we both walked across the street and climbed over a fence into the yard of the Bureau of Printing and Engraving.

Then we crawled over another fence on to 14th street bridge. When we were both safe from being arrested we broke down into laughter. We could just see a newspaper headline announcing the arrest of two men in three piece pin striped suits for breaking and entering the Bureau.

Over the years John has been the one I have called when I needed Godly wisdom in making a major decision.

I especially remember calling him to ask if there was any way I could accept an offer from Sung Yung Moon of 35 million dollars for my radio network. I knew what John would say and I already knew what God would have me to do, but I just wanted to make sure that there wasn't a way I could save my network and still be obedient to GOD's will.

John and his dear wife are some of God's very special people.
